A Weekend of Family
We just had a weekend with Tammy, Minnie, Brandon, and Evelyn. They got here on Wednesday evening and left this morning. We really enjoyed having them here.
Brandon and I went to the gym together on Friday morning. It was a fun experience. Brandon has been goign to the gym relatively consistently since high school so he was pretty flexible in doing just whatever I wanted. He was nice to share things that he’s done to make his workouts effective.
I just left the gym thinking that Brandon is a great guy. He is caring for Minnie. He’s a hard worker and responsible. He just babies Evelyn. She’s got him wrapped around her finger.
Tammy took each of the girls on dates to the store and let them pick something out and then took them for ice cream. It’s become a fun tradition that the girls always look forward to.
Brandon, Minnie, and I went to the practice to take a tour, and then went to buy fireworks. Brandon really wanted to buy fireworks to contribute. We went back and forth. I paid for everything, and then he bought some more.
Then we found out that fireworks are illegal in Lufkin city limits so we had to find somewhere to go. We ended up going to the Shepherd’s house in Diboll to do fireworks in their driveway. It was a little stressful, but ended up working out great. Jenny was afraid that the green green grass was going to start on fire. She settled down a bit.
The fireworks were a lot of fun though. The girls had fun staying up late. Although Desi did start asking during the last hour, “Can we go home? I want to go to sleep.”
We picked blueberries and made blueberry pie! It was the first time for all three of them trying blueberry pie. I think they liked it, but I don't know if they like it as much as we do... Haha.
Pig Dinner!
Lunch at Cafe Del Rio!
Brandon Farts.
Brandon: Wasn't Me
Minnie:
Walking around Lufkin Zoo Lake
Thank goodness for a pool on hot summer days.
Brandon and Minnie gave this Frozen game to the girls for Christmas and they've really enjoyed it. So it was fun to be able to play it with them.
A Broken Foot
Three weeks ago on a Saturday evening Jenny and I went on a date. Well, we got in an argument before going in to eat at Auntie Pasta’s. That wasn’t the first time. There was another time I got real upset during a dinner at Auntie Pasta’s and I put the money down on the table and stormed out.
Well, this time I didn’t storm out, but I didn’t eat much of my meal. I could barely get the salad down. My stomach was just turning with discomfort because of our argument.
Well, we go get in the truck and we’re talking about what to do because we can’t settle this argument. We start talking through it again. Jenny said some things that I considered to be very hurtful. I immediately pulled over, got out of the truck and started walking. I walked to a park just to cool off. I was so mad. Jenny wanted to work things out but I told her I was going to walk around for an hour and then we could go home.
Well, it turns out that I found out a trail, La Nana Creek Trail, which we have done as a family before, but I found an extension of it. We thought it ended at a specific spot, but it turns out it goes across the street and around a complex of soccer fields. There were fitness stations along the way so I decided to start doing them.
Well, I was getting a pretty good workout and then I found a concrete cylinder that I could do step-up lunges on. Well, I was on rep 17 or so when I came down on the side of my heel and rolled my ankle real good. I immediately knew something was different about this. I fell straight on my back and looked down at my ankle and saw it quickly swelling. I managed to get to my feet and walk back to the road, which was maybe a quarter mile? Jenny came and picked me up.
Since then, I had it x-rayed and it turns out that I tore my deltoid ligament and broke my navicular bone in my foot. So 2 weeks with no pressure or weight on it. That has been a big challenge.
The pain hasn’t been unbearable. There have been a few difficult nights because of pain but other than that, it hasn’t been too bad. The most difficult part has been the lack of independence. Tasks that were previously very simple, are now complex. I feel like I’m always sweating because of how much work everything takes.
The first week working was very difficult and overwhelming. Week two was easier. Week three was a breeze and I really got used to wheeling around on my knee scooter.
Just in the last few days I’ve been able to start walking on my foot while wearing the boot. It has been so great! I’m so happy to be able to walk again. And I don’t have to sleep with the boot on which has also been a great addition.
