Service for Hurricane Harvey evacuee

For YM/YW we went to the Hampton Inn to volunteer to box all the extra blankets, sheets, clothes, and food.  Then we loaded up trucks that were taking all this stuff to Florida for the evacuees that will be effected by Hurricane Irma.  They loaded up 9-13 trucks full of stuff.  It was a cool experience to see the good that happens during times of need and trial.

This room was FULL of stuff and after all the work it is looking bare.

One of the hotel rooms full of stuff- ready to go.

This sweet lady, Tracy told us her story after we were finished.  She is from a place called Beaumont and they woke up with water to her waist.  Her and her family were stuck in their house for 3-4 days and the roof caved in.  They had to be resuced by boat and their car flooded.  They had to be bused to Lufkin and have been stuck in their hotel room for days!  My heart was so touched and so I ran up to her after she shared and invited her and her family over for dinner and to get out of the hotel!

This is Tracy, her husband, and her sister.  Their daugher was able to leave earlier that day with some grandparents.  They were beyond grateful to have a home cooked meal and get out of the hotel.

After dinner we went outside and played ladder ball.  They have never heard of it before and they had a blast!  It was so fun to see the girls enjoy their company as well.

On the way home, they expressed how grateful they were and they told me that they only have one set of clothes.  They have checked out all the local hotels that had donations, but they didn't have plus size clothing.  After I dropped them off I was able to get donations from the ward to donate clothes to them.  They were so grateful!  We were so glad that we could have them in our home!

We watched The Pigeon Needs a Bath on YouTube and then we glued the pigeon together.  After we put it in a protection sheet and colored all over it to make it dirty.  Later she have the pigeon a bath by cleaning/whipping it clean.

The weather has been getting cooler and we have enjoyed being outside.  Ashlyn and Brinley "moved" houses in a new area in the yard.  They are really enjoying it!  Got to love the imagination!

With the cooler weather, this weekend we did hot dogs with the fire pit.  It was delicious!  Desi was giving me a heart attack because she just wanted to walk around close to the firepit.

Granny was so sweet and sent us delicious pumpkin bread and cookies in the mail.  We were so excited! Daddy made this dessert. Thank you Granny!

Later that evening these girls were so lucky to have daddy set up the tent outside to sleep.  It is such a fun memory for the girls and dad!

Derek has been wanting me to sleep in the tent and he finally got his wish!  Sunday night after the kids where asleep we went and slept outside.  The weather was perfect and the night noise was so beautiful.

Early in the morning, these girls have been getting up at six and will paint and read together.  It is fun to see them bond and make memories on their own.  I love watching them play together!

These girls love doing homework!

Ashlyn has been having fun teaching Brinley how to read!
